Sacred Music Program
Sacred Music is a joyful, prayerful support in our praise of God. Whether in leadership of the hymns or during the anthems offered for our meditative reflection, the Saint Luke’s Choir lifts us as we lift our hearts to the Lord.
In our Episcopal tradition, the most notable, and beautiful arrangement for the psalm is known as Anglican Chant –a distinctive four part composition that draws us into the meaning of the psalms as a meditation on the human condition.
The traditional organ preparation for worship as well as the piped sending out of the congregation are more than wonderful melodies. Just as the other music in worship opens our senses for the appreciation of God’s presence, these organ pieces are aural cues for the themes of the church season.
As you enter the church on Sunday mornings, please contribute to the quiet of the setting. There will be persons already seated for whom the prelude is a meaningful spiritual preamble. Likewise, with the postludes at the end of the liturgy: some people will choose to remain in the pew or lingering in the nave to listen. Kindly remember this as you make your way from our worship space.
